Happy New Year, everybody.
There’s no doubt that 2007 was an eventful year in local sports in the Lower Hudson Valley.
It included the Empire State Games coming to Westchester for the first time in the event’s 30-year history as well as plenty of other memorable moments.
On Tuesday in The Journal News and LoHud.com, we will be revisiting many of them.
Here’s a preview:

I caught up with North Rockland’s Mary Abrams after last night’s 56-54 loss to Ursuline in the season opener for both teams. The 6-foot-1 senior had 19 points, six rebounds and four assists despite a left wrist injury that forced her to miss the final few minutes of the first half.

One of many new weekly features here at The Sixth Man has arrived: The 60-second profile.
The way the 60-second profile will work is that each week I’ll catch up with a player or a coach and ask them a few questions. I’ll then post the audio from the interview on the blog. Sound simple? Good. I hope you enjoy it.
Our first 60-second profile of the season discusses the reappearance on the Section 1 scene of Ossining senior Kiki Shelton. As you probably know, she missed almost the entire basketball season last year after suffering a torn ACL in December. Shelton return during last Thursday’s loss to Briarcliff and in our profile she talks about what it meant to be back on the court.

In the season opener for the defending Class A state champion, Lakeland fell to Beacon 54-22. The Hornets graduated all five starters from last season, and were without one of their key returning players.
