Stepinac came from a run down to beat Iona Prep 2-1 in extra innings this afternoon. Here are my thoughts on what was a truly great game between rivals:

I caught up with North Rockland’s Mary Abrams after last night’s 56-54 loss to Ursuline in the season opener for both teams. The 6-foot-1 senior had 19 points, six rebounds and four assists despite a left wrist injury that forced her to miss the final few minutes of the first half.

Iona Prep stormed out to a 28-6 lead at halftime and overcame a tough third quarter to win today. Gaels QB Ryan O’Neil was terrific, 22 for 33 for 315 yards and two TDs in one of the best passing performances I’ve ever seen.
For more on O’Neil and co., plus a word or two about [...]
Not much to say about this one, as Pleasantville rolled over Dover behind two receiving touchdowns by Danny Bramswig and two blocked punts by Anthony Candela. The Panthers are very good and probably won’t get an opportunity to prove just how good until the Class B semis.

And now, folks, here are the rest of my thoughts, these on Sleepy Hollow’s incredible performance against Irvington. Stars of the day: Jamel Lyde, the transfer QB/RB from Albany, Steve Amaro, the bullish FB/LB, and Spencer White, the eloquent WR.

Hey everyone. I got to two surprisingly good games this weekend. On Friday, John Jay beat Yorktown 37-14 despite the Cornhuskers looking vastly improved. And today, Saturday, Rye beat Byram Hills 21-9. This one was simply tremendous, as the Garnets survived a rare scare and extended their Section 1 winning streak to 39. Take a [...]
